About the Artist

Ryo Takahashi fires his work in a train kiln he built himself, in Shiga Prefecture. Every firing produces something different — no two pieces are alike.

His work is guided by a single quiet theme: the blue landscape someone holds in their memory. Through wood firing, he coaxes an infinite range of blues from clay and ash — from pale, misty washes to deep, charged depths. Each piece carries the particular mood of its firing, shaped by the behavior of flame, temperature, and time.

Despite their visual strength, his works are designed to feel right in the hand — weighted thoughtfully, shaped for daily use. A teacup that invites you back. A bowl that earns its place on the table.

Because each piece is wood-fired, color and surface will vary. When ordering from a set with letter codes (e.g., “c” or “d”), the code identifies a specific piece photographed — you receive exactly what you see.
