Matsuya Lacquerware
Nesting bowls from Fukui, where Echizen lacquerware has been made for fifteen centuries. Black and vermilion, in the old forms — but built for a kitchen that runs: the body is a wood-composite that takes a dishwasher, where a wooden bowl would not. One sits inside the next, so a set stores in the space of one. Hand washing keeps the finish longer.
・Handmade — One by One
Every piece from Japan Classic is formed and fired entirely by hand, in small quantities, one at a time.
These handcrafted works carry slight variations in shape, weight, and surface, bearing the subtle marks of true craftsmanship rather than mass production.
・Living Glaze
On glazed pieces, you will find fine crackle patterns—known in Japan as kannyu (貫入)—naturally created as the glaze cools after firing.
This delicate finish evolves with time, reflecting the quiet beauty found in wabi-sabi ceramics.
・Elegance
Inspired by Japan’s timeless aesthetic, every piece by Japan Classic blends tradition with modern versatility.
Whether for rice, soups, or shared plates, these refined tablewares are designed for everyday beauty, maintaining their grace in both Eastern and Western settings.
